Cheesemaking

One of the first questions that we receive from most families that make inquiries into our farm is whether we make cheese.  This is not an art that we have perfected nor do we have the licensed facilities to do it on a commercial basis.  However, there are resources out there that are helpful to the typical family in making their own cheese.

Our favorite cheesemaking resource is the New England Cheese Making Supply Company located in Ashfield, MA.  The owner, Ricki Carroll, has an extensive knowledge of cheesemaking and offers an extensive catalog of cheesemaking supplies and recipe books.  We have ordered many items through her company including a Cheesemaking 101 video.  This video brings you right into her kitchen while she shows you how to make some of the simpler cheeses for the newcomer to cheesemaking.

There are producers of raw milk cheeses out there.  One can search the internet for producers or go to the Real Milk site to find those that specialize in this art.  When going to the Real Milk site, the cheesemakers are intermingled with the other producers of Weston Price friendly farms.
