Welcome to the Double O Farms

A Tribute to Our Owners

Many in opposition to the rights of families to consume raw milk often use the argument that cowshare programs are merely a smoke screen for the sale of raw milk. If they knew the owners of the Double O Farms Cowshare Program, they would know that their argument held little water.

Over the years, there have been some major events in which our owners have stepped up to the plate.  They proved themselves to not just be “customers”, not just owners that merely wanted the right to get milk, but a community - a family.

In 2006, when we had the unfortunate opportunity to be investigated by State and Federal agents of our government, you, our owners, were in the trenches with us. You organized yourselves to help run the farm on just about every level possible.  Those on the newly formed legal team met sometimes weekly and talked daily to help represent the rights of the owners and their farmer during the long legal battles. Two owners took on the task of mapping out the location of each family so as to organize all our owners into carpools to make pick up of milk from the farm possible for all.  Some of the carpools drove an hour and half one way to get their milk. Meals arrived for our family through these carpools to help sustain us during our most difficult months. Representatives from the carpools came down to the farm three times a week to assist in bottling milk. We can even recall three ladies working diligently in our basement washing in excess of 200 glass milk bottles after they were returned to us by one of the State Agencies that had earlier confiscated them. All in all, our owners contributed an overwhelming 400 volunteer hours during a nine month period to keep the cowshare program and our family going. To read a more personal account of this blessing to our family, please read the Business Week Article.

The support that we have experienced from our extended family in these owners extends beyond just that nine month period in 2006. You have gathered at the farm for tours and ownership meetings, initiated the research into the beginnings of our glass bottle program, made monetary donations to help with legal fees and construction projects on the new farm, and taken our family in as one of your own.

There is no way to say thank you enough for allowing our family to serve you over the years. You are all an incredible group of people and a community any family would relish being a part of. A smokescreen for the sale of raw milk??  Obviously, those critics haven’t met our owners!!!

May God’s blessings be returned to you as you have been His hands and feet on so many occasions in blessing our family. Thank you for being used by Him.

Sincerely,

Gary and Dawn Oaks and Family
